On 7 June 2003 the law by decree approved by the Italian Government on
6 June concerning the reorganization of the National Research Council
(CNR) and providing for the merging of INFM into CNR
came into force.

The Director
After previous deliberation of the Directorate and favourable opinion of the Scientific Council, the ‘Director of Laboratory’ is appointed for a three-year term by the President. The Director is elected among experts with specific competence well-known on an international scale. The Director can be renominated consecutively only once.
The ‘Director of Laboratory’ can be given an allowance fixed by the Board of Directors.
The office of the ‘Director of Laboratory’ is neither compatible with that of the ‘Director of Research Unit’ or of other Laboratories, nor with that of any national ‘Director of Section’.
The Director coordinates the general aspects of the Laboratory’s functioning, is held responsible for the utilization of the resourses allocated, for its personnel and the laboratory equipment. The Director formulates programmes, works out financial statements and scientific reports.
He convenes and chairs the meetings of the Laboratory, yearly transmits the updated personnel roll to the Directorate and to the Institute’s Scientific Council, and carries out all necessary actions for the good functioning of the Laboratory.
According to the INFM’s Accounting and Finance Rules and Regulations, the Director of Laboratory carries administrative responsability for the decentralized management of the Laboratory’s allotted funds. He is to this end authorized by the INFM’s Directorate.
At the moment, the TASC Director is prof. Alberto Morgante.

The Scientific Council
The ‘Scientific Council of Laboratory’ is appointed for a three-year term by the Directorate, upon advice of the Institute’s Scientific Council. It is composed by internationally well-known experts who elect among themselves the President. The ‘Director of Laboratory’ takes part in the meetings of the ‘Scientific Council of Laboratory’. The members of the ‘Scientific Council of Laboratory’ can be renominated consecutively only once.
The ‘Scientific Council of Laboratory’ has the task to single out and/or suggest lines of scientific development; to give expert opinions and to evaluate the state of art of the laboratory activities.
The ‘Scientific Council of Laboratory’ is summoned by its President at least once a year, or whenever the latter reckons it necessary. The meeting of the ‘Scientific Council of Laboratory’ can also be called upon request of the ‘Director of Laboratory’ or on demand of the fourth of its members.

The Assembly of Laboratory
The Assembly is composed by all the personnel of the Laboratory. It is chaired by the ‘Director of Laboratory’, or, in case of the latter’s impediment, by the person by him delegated or by the senior among the researchers operating there.
The ‘Meeting of Laboratory’ gives opinions on scientific and financial programmes, on the annual final statement, as well as on the annual updating of the personnel roll.
The ‘Meeting of Laboratory’ is convened at least once a year and whenever the Director reckons it necessary; or upon request of the fourth of its members. If necessary, the meeting can be also attended by external personnel involved in activities of the national sections or in the formulation of joined projects for the discussion of the final reports.
